Fibromyalgia is one of the most misunderstood conditions I work with. The pain is real, the fatigue is crushing, and yet so many people are told — by others and by themselves — that they should be able to push through. Coaching won’t take the pain away. What it can do is change the way you live alongside it, and that turns out to change a great deal.
The first shift is usually from fighting to listening. Many people with fibromyalgia spend years at war with their body: forcing, bargaining, punishing themselves for flare-ups. In coaching we practise treating the body as a messenger rather than an enemy. It sounds soft; in practice it frees up an enormous amount of energy that was being spent on self-criticism.
The second is energy. When your battery is small, how you spend it matters more than ever. A simple weekly audit — what drained me, what restored me — reveals patterns fast, and from there we choose one drain to reduce and one energiser to protect. Rest gets planned before you need it, not after you’ve crashed.
The third is the invisible-illness tax: the guilt of cancelling, the disbelief from people who “can’t see anything wrong”, the shrinking of your world to avoid explaining yourself. We work on scripts for the hard conversations, on boundaries that hold, and on grieving the life you expected so that you can begin to build the one that’s actually possible.
None of this replaces your GP, rheumatologist, pain clinic or physiotherapist — coaching sits alongside medical care, not instead of it. But it fills the gap those services often can’t: the space to be honest about how you really feel, and practical, kind next steps that meet your energy rather than demanding more of it.
If fibromyalgia has made your life feel small, you are not broken — you’re stuck without a clear path. That can change. A free discovery call is a no-pressure way to find out whether coaching might be that path for you.
If any of this resonates, a free, no-pressure discovery call is a gentle first step.
